The
best tips I can give you are on how to make a sundial are as follows:
· Determine your latitude.
Using the map for your local area, estimate what your latitude is.
Any clock making is a precise procedure. Your latitude will be the
number of degrees north if you live in the northern hemisphere,
for southern hemisphere, your latitude will be the number of degrees
south.
· Construct the sundial.
You will need a pair of scissors and some tape. Make the folds very
carefully and your sundial will have a more accurate reading. Always
refer to your sundial instructions, which are available at most
bookstores and on the Internet.
· Align the sundial.
Take your sundial outside and place it on a level surface. Aim the
style due North. You should now have a working sundial. Remember
to take Daylight Savings Times into account. During Daylight Savings
Time, the sundial will be an hour behind your indoor clocks.
When solar time was no longer adequate for railway timekeeping,
a system of time zones was initiated. A powerful mark in clock making,
this created twenty-four time zones, each fifteen degrees in width
- within which all clocks would tell the same time. However, the
sun moves across each artificial time zone at its own pace.
As a hobby clock makers can make many other types of timepieces.
There are practically no limitations depending on your time, dedication
and, most importantly, your capability. If you are an artistic person—with
good ideas, plenty of creativity and a lot of enthusiasm to get
the job done, your clock will as be perfect as you imagined.
There are clock making “kits” that are sold that specialize
in clocks, clock repair, clock parts and other and clock accessories.
These kits come in different types for the clock making of all styles
of clocks, wall clocks, mantel clocks, even pendulum clocks and
cuckoo clocks.
If you want or would like to be a serious clock maker, get started
with an easier style of clock, for example: a mantel clock. I would
suggest construction your clock out of wood, using paint or a stain
to give it color or a very polished, classy shine.
The woodwork of clock making is simple if you choose a more simple
design, Even clocks with rounded tops are not so difficult.
If you are already experienced in woodworking, clock making you
may find your niche in clock making. This may be exactly what you
have been looking for. Try a pendulum clock or large wall clock.
Give it a nice, polished stain and maybe carve out some designs
in the body of it.
