I
saw a cute little vintage clock the other day: a cat with a swinging
tail that acts as a pendulum. The clock face is on his belly and
he was pink and green—like the colors of a watermelon. My
friend told me that these vintage clocks come in just plain pink,
just plain green and even in black and white. I thought “what
a cute idea!” vintage clocks are very popular these days,
especially among your modern contemporary types of people, so I
looked around a bit to see what other kinds of vintage clocks I
could find.
First I found a great little clock that looked like a sunburst,
designed with a lot of detail and a variety of yellows and light
oranges—the face placed in the center of the sun. Similar
to this one was a sunflower clock. Same shape and relatively the
same size, this vintage clocks is a clock I would love to have on
my wall to brighten up the room. The petals, like the rays of sun
on the sun clock, were gracefully painted with tones of yellow and
gold.
Moving on in my search, I discovered a wine glass-shaped clock
with the face in the circumference of the wine glass itself. How
delightful, I thought, for the wine enthusiast to keep in the living
room or kitchen. There was a similar clock that was the same only
it was a rum glass—apparently these glasses were popular in
the 1960s and have made a comeback.
Next I came across a vintage electric desk clock. This is not your
typical clock by any means, it is not like a novelty item at all,
but very classic looking. This vintage clock is, as I said, a very
elegant clock. It is designed with a solid, glass clear body and
has random gold spheres speckled throughout.
Another clock I found was similar to the sunflower clock that I
mentioned before. This clock has an almost swirled-type pattern
that tosses continuous loops in the background—directly behind
the vintage clocks face. It is called the “flower burst”
and it is an electric wall clock made of brass wire it is an electric
wall clock.
Some of the newer vintage clocks come in odd sizes, not like the
brick-shaped transparent desk vintage clock speckled with gold like
I just mentioned, but odd shaped faces as well. These vintage clocks
are very much like modern art. Though some of the other clocks I
have described seem very much like modern sculpture or at lest sculpture-like
designs, These vintage clocks look like they could be showcased
in a museum. The faces of these clocks are even unusual. Like other
vintage clocks, such clocks are often not available in your average
stores—even if these stores do have a selection of clocks.
There are specialty shops that carry vintage clocks exclusively,
these are the places you would want to look if you are looking for
a vintage clock that completely suits your style.
