Wood
is a material that has long been used in clocks. In fact, it is
only much more recently that wall clocks have commonly been made
from other materials like metals and plastics. Wooden wall clocks
have changed some over the years, though. There are classic wooden
wall clocks available for sale and also more modern ones.
One very popular type of wooden wall clock is a cuckoo clock. In
fact, when cuckoo clocks were first starting to be made, even the
gears were metal. Cuckoo clocks today have metal gears and plates,
not wood. Cuckoo clocks are such a popular wooden wall clock because
of the great detail that goes into each cuckoo clock case.
Most cuckoo clocks are in the shape of birdhouses or chalets, and
many of them have carved leaves or animals like dear on them. Cuckoo
clocks are also known for the little cuckoo bird that pops in and
out of a trapdoor on every half hour and hour. Cuckoo clocks are,
of course, mostly known for the sound they make as they strike every
hour - it sounds like a cuckoo’s call.
There are also wooden wall clocks with pendulums. These wooden
wall clocks are quite a bit like long case clocks - only they
hang on the wall and they do not have the long case enclosing the
pendulum. Instead, the pendulum wags back and forth like a dog’s
tail.
There are many different sorts of wooden wall clocks out there.
There are wooden wall clocks that are hand-carved. There are also
wooden wall clocks that are hand-painted. There are wooden wall
clocks of many beautiful woods like maple cherry and oak.
Wooden wall clocks can add a lot to practically any room in the
house. If you need a little something to spice up or tone down a
