The
proper gifts to give on a wedding anniversary of changed over the
years. Although a diamond is the proper gift for the 60th year and
gold is still the proper gift for the 50th anniversary, etc., other
anniversary gifts have changed. For instance, traditionally on the
seventh anniversary you should give wool. A more modern gift for
the seventh anniversary is copper. Similarly, for the first anniversary,
paper is the traditional gift. Now, the more modern anniversary
gift is a clock.
Hey, why not give an anniversary clock for that first year anniversary
gift? What could be more perfect? An anniversary clock for an anniversary
that dictates giving a clock.
Of course, anniversary clocks are not so named simply because they
make great anniversary gifts (they also make great gifts for employees
and are also great rewards, etc.)… anniversary clocks are
so named because they only need to be wound once a year.
Because of this, an anniversary clock means so much more as a wedding
anniversary gift. You can buy an anniversary clock so that the time
of year that it needs to be wound up again falls on your anniversary
- what a fantastic metaphor. Winding up the clock, starting
and working at a new year, keeping the passion and love of a marriage
wound up, alive, and well.
There are a variety of anniversary clocks out there to choose from.
There are even anniversary clocks that display favorite cartoon
characters. The majority of anniversary clocks, though, have a glass
enclosing.
Anniversary clocks have this glass enclosing because the delicate
time-keeping capabilities of the anniversary clocks. An anniversary
clock runs much slower than a regular pendulum movement and is susceptible
to interference from outside the clock like surface leveling, vibrations,
temperature changes, and humidity changes.
Cleaning and time-setting an anniversary clock can be quite time-consuming.
It can even take several weeks to insure that the anniversary clock
is operating completely correctly. Of course, once it is working
well, it only needs to be wound once a year, so it is worth it.
Regardless of whether you give or receive an anniversary clock
as a first year wedding anniversary gift, as a gift to or from a
friend or co-worker, or whatever, or even if you go out and buy
an anniversary clock for yourself… an anniversary clock is
a wonderful timepiece that looks beautiful on a mantel or on a desk
or wherever you want to put your anniversary clock.
