Wall Decor

Wall DecorWall Décor is not just paintings. Wall décor can be a variety of things. Wall décor can include collectibles, photographs, mirrors, clocks, shelves, and other items. The trick with wall décor is not simply what you hang, but how and where you hang it.

Everything on your wall must be balanced and in harmony. This does not mean that everything must be symmetrically hung - in fact, asymmetrical arrangements can add interest to your wall décor. But even asymmetrical arrangements should be balanced in some way. It is best if your wall décor has a focal point - a point that the onlooker’s eye is first drawn to. From the focal point, the viewer can look at everything else.

Wall décor is art. Therefore, it should be treated as such. Many of the same rules that apply to painting or photography, etc. apply to wall décor, as well. For instance, balance and harmony are important in a painting, as well. Everything that you include in your wall décor should be considered one giant piece of art - your wall is your canvas. Therefore, all of your pieces of wall décor must work together.

Wall décor can be made easier if you make templates of what you plan to hang (assuming that you have already chosen your pieces of wall décor). You do not want to have to hammer and re-hammer nails, leaving holes in the wall where they used to be (and you certainly do not want to have to pick a place for a painting just so that the painting will cover up nail holes).

A template is easy to make - you just need to find a piece of paper or newspaper and cut it down to the same size as your painting or other piece of wall décor. You should do this for each piece of wall décor that you plan to hang. You can then arrange all of your templates together on the floor so that you can see how they fit together. You could, instead, get some poster putty and arrange your templates on the actual wall to give you the best idea (just be careful not to smear newsprint all over you wall - it can be messy).

You can even use the templates to figure out where to put the nail hole in the wall - you can put a hole right in the vertical center of your paper where the nail should go (based on the wire your painting, etc. will be hung from). Then you just need to mark the wall with a pencil where the picture hanger or nail needs to go.

When hanging up your pieces of wall décor, it is a good idea to use a leveler to make sure that everything is straight, especially if you are hanging up shelves. With a level, you can be sure that all of the bases of your frames are at the same level or whatever it is you have decided to do. Try to keep even spaces between all of your frames, even if you have an asymmetrical arrangement.

Be sure that before you put the nails in the wall, you step back and take a look at your templates / wall décor. You want to make sure that you like it before you commit to a certain arrangement of wall décor.

Electric Wall Clocks
When you have an electric wall clock, you don’t have to worry about changing the batteries. Electric wall clocks can be the perfect one accent for any room. Think of your electric wall clock not just as a timepiece, but as a decoration, as well.

French Wall Clock
The French have brought the world French fries, the Eiffel Tower, and… wall clocks?

.Grandmother Clocks
Why should grandfathers have all the fun? Why not try a grandmother clock instead of a grandfather clock? Grandmother clocks are generally smaller than grandfather clocks and are great for hallways, foyers, and other small areas.

Longcase Clocks
Longcase clocks are, perhaps, the grandest of all clocks. They are popularly known as grandfather clocks, and they certainly have a wise and dignified air about them like many grandfathers do.
