Most
oversized wall clocks I have seen range from forty inches in width
to twenty-five inches in width. So there is quite a wide range of
sizes being classified as “large”. I’d say they
are large—would you not?
The biggest clocks, of course can be used for a number of practical
reasons. Atop a city building, for example, or in a press room,
perhaps. An oversized wall clock is also ideal for that large convention
center in the city or the great ballrooms or dining areas of expensive
hotels. Oversized wall clocks can be very impressive, don’t
you think? And they come in a variety of shapes and styles.
There is one oversized wall clock I found that really has a classy
look. Many wall clocks are similar in style and appearance at least
somewhat, but this is one of the oversized wall clocks I have seen
that I think really looks great. It is designed with fade-resistant
inks, it has a twenty-five inch antique dial is carefully mounted
onto a thick panel base, then this oversized wall clock was secured
into an aged polystone frame and finished in Rustic Umber. The look
is great, such an oversized wall clock would be ideal for a large
cabin or rustic den. There are such oversized wall clocks designed
in quartz, marble etc. they run on battery operated movement. Altogether,
this particular clock was thirty inches wide, but I am sure such
a style can be made available in smaller or larger sizes.
Of course, these types of oversized wall clocks will not be found
in a normal store—even if that store does sell a wide variety
of clocks—you would be very lucky to find one there. The best
place to find oversized wall clocks is at a store that specializes
in clocks—maybe one that specializes in oversized wall clocks
exclusively.
Another great oversized wall clock I saw once had an impressive
presence, perfec to suit the more elegant of rooms. This clock was
twenty-four inches wide and had a with a highly detailed acanthus
leaf frame around the actual face. This oversized wall clock was
finished in antique platinum with gold highlights. The oversized
wall clock I am speaking of used Arabic numerals and hade aged hour
and minute hands made of spade. It relied on quartz movement, again,
and was battery operated.
The last of these beautiful oversized wall clocks that I will mention
is called the “Camilla” by its manufacturer, the Howard
Miller Gallery, which specializes in wall clocks and especially
oversized wall clocks. This decorative gallery oversized wall clocks
features bent iron scrollwork and is finished in Antique Gold. The
aged dial features Arabic numerals at the 3, 6, 9, and 12. Quartz
movement chimes Westminster chimes and strikes every hour it features
an on/off switch for chime and hour strike, in case you prefer the
silence to the chimes. This oversized wall clock is twenty-four
and a half inches wide and has a hanging scrollwork décor,
shaped sort of like a pendulum—a beautiful unmoving pendulum.
