has been said that his watch is the most important accessory a man
can wear. It is not only an essential style element, but also a
very practical thing to have. It seems that there are too many casual
watches now acceptable to wear in the office, work, and formal settings.
It makes a statement—a sloppy one. A man who wears his multi-function
sport watch with a suits and tie or other dressier attire, should
really try to pick up something more sophisticated for when the
occasion calls.
Have different watches for both work and play. Or more even, if
you simply like having a variety to choose from in the morning.
However, when buying a nicer watch, you should choose something
classy and more long lasting. Sporty/technical watches tend to be
cheaper, so those are not as important to stew over when making
your decision, to buy or not to buy.
There is really nothing stylish about a sporty watch anyway, for
them it is only about function. It has been suggested that if your
watch has night-vision features, if it measures distances or calculates
altitude; if it has a compass or a rubber strap, and/or has a digital
display. This is the wrong watch to wear to a formal occasion.
Consider the following when you are buying a new watch:
A Stainless-Steel Bracelet
Stainless steel is practical, much more so than leather. Stainless
steel is also more durable. It is nice enough to be worn with a
business suit, but it is also casual enough for other types of occasions.
Stainless steel is also waterproof, which you want to consider for
many reasons. You can buy a gold watch, but they are substantially
more expensive.
The Face
The size of the your watch face relative to your wrist is also very
important. Larger men wearing a watch with a standard watch face
can end up looking like they are wearing a ladies watch. Watchmakers
are continually coming out with new watches that have larger faces
for this exact reason. I think that whether you are a big guy or
not, a larger watch face is a great look.
Water Resistance
If you shower or swim with your watch on, this is a good feature—but
how many men do that? I don’t know. The reason I think a water
resistant or waterproof watch is useful for such things as washing
your hands, getting caught in the rain or snow, or for any other
time your watch might accidentally get wet. If it is water resistant,
you don't have to worry. Remember, “water resistant”
can have several different meanings, so be sure you ask someone
to what degree the watch is resistant. Some watches will only resist
moisture from accidental splashing, rain, sweat, etc. while others
will resist moisture underwater—up to certain depths.
The Color of the Face and Strap
It is trendy to have dials and straps in exciting colors. When building
a classic wardrobe stick to the tried and true colors that you know
will match and look appropriate. But the trendy colors are fun if
you are considering buying a second or third watch.
